Erin grew up in Arden, North Carolina and graduated from Roberson High School. She is a junior at North Carolina State University where she is studying for a major in broadcast journalism with a double minor in world literature and French. In 2006 she won the Dr. John R. Bittner Scholarship from the Radio Television News Directors Association of the Carolinas.
Erin won both the Miss North Carolina Teen USA and Miss North Carolina USA titles on her first attempt. She is only the second Miss Teen USA 2001 delegate to win a Miss USA state title. Erin is one of three Miss North Carolina Teen USA titleholders who have won the Miss crown, and was crowned Miss NC Teen USA by Chelsea Cooley, who later became Miss NC USA and Miss USA!
