Mollie Smith, a 17-year old from Casper, Wyoming, was both thrilled and honored when she was chosen Miss Wyoming Teen for 2007. “Even though I’m used to performing on stage, I had never attempted a pageant before. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it was such a positive experience, partly because of the amazing girls I met. I would encourage any young girl to enter.”
Mollie is an honor student who enjoys writing of all kinds, whether it’s short stories like the one that won a state Young Author’s prize, articles for her school newspaper, or the lyrics for an R&B song that she recently recorded. Music is another of Mollie’s passions. She has performed with the Wyoming All-State Honor choir since her freshman year and with the All-Northwest Region Honor Choir last year. She also plays piano, directs a youth choir at her church, and is currently learning to play the guitar. In addition to a maintaining a busy schedule as a student, she also enjoys her job selling skin-care products. “I love my job. Our shop is right it in the middle of the busiest part of the mall, so I get to talk to people all day. Whatever career I choose, and fashion marketing or journalism are my top choices right now, I know it will be in a field dealing with people.”
While she has enjoyed the public appearances that have been part of her title-holding year, her favorite appearances are the ones where she can interact with children. “I love talking with younger girls. They love trying on the crown and sash even when the sash hangs all the way to the floor. Their faces light up.” While much of her year as Miss Wyoming Teen still remains, she has already been a part of fundraisers for the Central Wyoming Hospice and the Make a Wish Foundation. “I’m looking forward to helping with charitable events, especially events where I can work while I’m meeting new people.”
