Shalane became Miss Washington Teen USA on November 12th, 2006 when she was 17. Now 18, she recently graduated from Ridgefield High school. She was born in Portland Oregon, and resides in Vancouver where she lives with her parents Shane and Melissa, her big brother Bryce, two dogs Coby-Joe, and Sugar, a cat named Bird and her rabbit named Pixie.
A dancer since the age of four, Shalane is now a third year Radio City Rockette Summer Intensive Student. This opportunity has allowed her to perform at the legendary and famous Radio City Music Hall and on 42nd & Broadway at the new American Airlines Theatre. She is a member of the Schell Senior Performing group and has performed on Carnival Cruise Lines in the Bahamas, at Walt Disney World and Disney Land. Shalane especially enjoys performing at nursing homes and hospitals during the holiday season.
She has been honored by her hometown and community, by being chosen as the Grand Marshall of the 4th of July 2006 celebration, in Ridgefield, Washington. She was student of the month honoring her scholarship potential. She was a member of the National Society of High School Scholars, as well as a member of the National Honor Roll. She was a very active member of her school's FBLA, where she has served as Historian and as the Secretary. She's won the Southwest Washington Public Speaking competition and was honored to be a top state finalist.
Shalane also finds time to speak out and be a role model for her school and community in the fight against peer pressure and drugs. She has served as her school's Teens Against Tobacco Youth Advocate, and formed a National platform known as "Teens Against Tobacco, Informed Youth for a Healthier Nation."
She has won numerous dance awards and scholarships and is planning on attending a private university where she can double major in Dance and in Broadcast Journalism.
