Lauren is a 16-year-old high school sophomore at Farmington High School where she is active in school activities and athletics. Lauren plays middle hitter/blocker for her high school volleyball team and for Team St. Louis 16-1. She is a dedicated and proficient athlete as demonstrated by the extensive training and traveling she does with her team. She also spends her summer playing league volleyball and attending training camps. Lauren has been the recipient of All-Camp Team honors and the blocking award for the past two summers from Washington University-St. Louis Volleyball camp. Lauren played basketball from the 2nd to the 8th grade. Her middle school basketball team was undefeated in regular season play for two years obtaining the distinction of being Conference Champions and Conference Tournament Champions. Lauren is a member of the Farmington High School Theatre Guild, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and SOS (Standing on Scripture).
Lauren has also enjoyed snow skiing, water skiing, and swimming. She also likes to ride the trails of the Ozarks on her horse, Scamper, and taking canoe trips down the St. Francis River with her 13-year-old sister, Kelly. Spending time with family and friends, working out, talking on the phone, and eating are some of her other pastimes.
Lauren is the oldest daughter of John and Nancy Petersen. She values the time she spends with her family and greatly appreciates the encouragement she receives from them. The love and support of her family and friends motivate her to achieve new heights and seek new adventures. Entering the Miss Missouri Teen USA pageant was a huge leap of faith for her. Seven months ago, Lauren could not even walk in high heels and now she can even when wearing a swimsuit. It has been an unusual and positive journey from basketball shoes to stiletto heels.
Lauren plans on attending college and playing volleyball, ultimately becoming a marine biologist. Modeling is also an interest that has been sparked by her participation in a recent charity fashion show.
Lauren has been enjoying the opportunities and challenges associated with the Miss Missouri Teen USA title. She is becoming involved with the American Heart Association “Go Red for Women” Campaign and the Special Olympics. Lauren served as a volunteer at the community Christmas party for foster children in Park Hills, MO. She is also trying to increase student participation in science by being featured on KFVS-12 Science Program and helping to have October 3 declared “Science Day” in Missouri.
